Acupuncture Therapy

The World Health Organization suggests acupuncture therapy is effective in treating over 150 health disorders.

About Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a holistic health technique that stems from Traditional Chinese Medicine practices in which trained practitioners stimulate specific points on the body by inserting thin needles to specific depths. The needles, as thin as a human hair, are inserted strategically in selected points to address areas of imbalance.

It is used for a very wide variety of issues ranging from pain, or scar tissue, to accelerate healing after an injury, to balance digestive disturbances, fertility difficulties, insomnia, headaches, to arthritis and even depression.

It should also be noted that acupuncture is one vital component of traditional Chinese Medicine yet is often accompanied by herbal and diet therapy and massage.

About Your Treatment

Both traditional needle acupuncture, aromatherapy point therapy and a newer tens-electrical stimulation of acu-points are the choices of treatment available at Flourishing Health clinic.

Select essential oils have a warming, cooling, stimulating or penetrating actions, and when applied to the points commonly used topically, can induce a healing response in the body.

The tens is a regulated very small electrical current on a stylus. It does not enter the skin but slides along the top of it locating areas of tenderness and stimulates the movement of Qi (energy) and blood in this area. This gentle electrical stimulation is a way of giving a  treatment without puncturing the skin utilizing the same points that would be used in acupuncture to reduce pain or address a health challenge you may be experiencing. Heather also uses acupressure during some massages.

Nutrition Counseling

When it comes to your body, you are what you eat, what you drink and how you exercise. Your body also contains toxins you get from your environment. These toxins burden your body, prevent or slow healing and prematurely age you. We work to bring your body back to a healthy balance by ridding your body of toxins and replenishing it.

TCM uses a seasonal approach to eating. It also takes into consideration your unique constitution at the time of the consultation. The diet therapy plan will contain lists of foods to enjoy often and which foods to avoid. This is not a life-long plan, yet a big step towards increasing your vibrancy. The plan should be reviewed seasonally as your health changes and improves.

What Is It?

Diet therapy is an essential part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with flavors, and temperatures, and even textures of foods all being considered for the constitution and symptoms of each patient. Learning which foods to avoid, as well ones to focus on in a diet may significantly and quickly improve one’s health.

TCM is a complete health system compromised of several methods with diet therapy being among them. This therapy considers the energetic qualities of the foods and how the food can influence the long term health of the individual.

This therapy is great for not only maintaining great health but also restoring ones health. Deficiencies and excesses can be corrected with foods and balance in your body can be restored. Since food is one of our primary sources of energy, it has a great potential to influence our health.

Food provides a constant, daily medication rate that nothing else can achieve for overall wellness.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is concentrated herbal medicine using the inherent chemicals of the plants to impact the symptom and health. Using the essential oils from plants in specific combinations bacteria, viruses, and even parasites can be addressed.

About Aromatherapy

Essential oils come from the buds, flowers, leaves or needles, bark, roots or resins of plants. These potent oils can be used in  a wide variety of ways, and ongoing training and recognition of their ability to tackle complex health issues is being realized. Heather has trained under several skilled Aromatherapists using the European Medical model of Aromatic Medicine which is used in numerous hospitals and clinics to reduce illness duration and address antibiotic resistance of some bacteria.

Flourishing Health founder – Heather has been a certified and practicing Aromatherapist for 20 years. She devoted 10 years of her life to the distillation of essential oils. Some of these were native plants which were rare and exotic on the world market. This culminated in Heather presenting at the world aroma therapy conference and teaching at aromatherapy schools.

She continues to learn and grow in this fascinating field and will be using it in her Traditional Chinese Medicine practice.

Cupping Therapy

is an ancient form of therapy which lifts the tissue into the cup with suction. This lifting action gently stretches and moves the facia which surrounds each muscle layer.

What Is It?

is an ancient form of therapy which lifts the tissue into the cup with suction. This lifting action gently stretches and moves the facia which surrounds each muscle layer. This brings fresh circulation to the area to help reduce areas of adhesion, knots or soreness. It is also used to relieve the congestion of a cold or flu which is felt as body aches in the chest or upper back. You may have seen Olympic Athletes and others with the red marks or light bruises often caused by this type of therapy. Cupping therapy is widely practiced and can have great benefits to your overall health.

Many acupuncturists incorporate cupping into their every day practice as it is said to have the therapeutic effects of warming the meridians and invigorating the small vessels, enhancing qi movement and removing blood stasis, dissolving swell and stopping pain, expelling wind and cold pathogens

How is it done?

At Flourish both glass and silicone cups may be used for various conditions.

Cupping is growing rapidly in popularity for the reason that it gets great results and is available in conjunction with a number of the modalities offered or on it’s own at Flourishing Health.

No additional fees are charged for cupping. Contact us to book your cupping therapy session.

Reflexology

Reflexology is the application of pressure to the feet and hands with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques.

What Is It?

Reflexology is the application of pressure to the feet and hands with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques.

Reflex points in hands, and feet correspond to different body organs and systems and that working on them has a beneficial effect on the person’s health. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) the meridians powerful “shu” points are located on the hands and feet and the manual stimulation of these can be very beneficial for a variety of ailments.

Quite simply by applying manual pressure on hands, feet and ears, on meridian points we can assist the body to release tension, reduce pain, and increase optimal functions and range of motion.

Pricing and more

This type of treatment can help alleviate pain, stress, anxiety, insomnia, and hormonal or digestive challenges through focusing on body reflex in areas normally not associated with these symptoms. Reflex areas can be found on the feet, ears, head, and face. This type of treatment helps to restore the body’s natural balance and release blockages that can occur from periods of illness, pain or stress.

According to the Reflexology Association of Canada, “Reflexology is one of the safest and least invasive alternative therapeutic practices available.” – and of course we don’t disagree!

Typically the use of aromatherapy blends and reflexology is a part of every massage done by Heather.

Pricing

  • 60 minute massage reflexology combo $140
  • 30 minute reflexology $60
